Nissan Murano Rain Sensor Troubleshooting
The Nissan Murano model comes either equipped or optionally (upon request) has a rain-sensor installed.
While rain-sensor technology is especially desirable for rain-filled climates, it is not without it’s flaws. In fact, many sensor issues can easily be fixed through the process of simply relocating your sensor, receiver, or engaging other possible obstructions.
Firstly, consider the placement of your sensor and receiver. If there are any objects, protrusions, or otherwise obstacles that could interfere with either components. An object as simple as leaves, sticks, or even dirt could mean the difference between proper communications between your rain-sensor and receiver. In many cases, vehicle owners have had to relocate at minimum one of either the sensor or receiver to enhance consistency and performance of their Murano’s rain sensor device.
Have you ensured that the factory “terminal jump” has been removed? It is designed to directly interfere or prevent communication between the sensor and receiver. Often, when your mechanic repairs, restores, or replaces parts on your vehicle – specifically sensors – a factory object such as this could still be left on by accident. A jumper clip or wire will be visibly connected alongside of or directly into the circuit, thereby requiring direct removal for proper operation of the rain sensor device.
Have you checked your rain-sensor bypass switch? Many rain-sensor models on the Murano’s come with this, and simply toggling to the “Active” or “On” position can restore or activate functionality of the rain sensor.
Aside from intrusions or instability of connection caused by physical obstacles or poorly assembled locations, radio signal can also be the culprit of malfunctioning rain sensors. To fix this, refer to the Murano’s manual and reset the address for both the sensor and/or receiver to redirect the appropriate commands and compatibility with your uniquely programmed device.
