Air conditioner sensor not working. Troubleshooting an Air Conditioner Remote Sensor

Most modern air conditioners include a remote control for convenience with using your device, so you don’t have to keep getting up out of your seat or bed when you want to turn it on, off, or toggle its other settings.

Unfortunately, sometimes the sensor on the remote and even the sensor on the unit itself can become defective. Other common causes are linked to proximity. It’s important that you read your air conditioners manual and ensure you are placing the device and attempting remote-control commands at a practical distance. Additionally, relying on proximity can be an issue with communication if you have something concealing or otherwise blocking the receptor infrared sensor on the device, or on the remote itself.
Before calling it quits and contacting the manufacturer or ordering a new remote, consider cleaning both sensors—the one on your remote, as well as the sensor on your device. Avoid using strong chemicals or cleaning agents, as they could negatively impact the future functionality of your remote on either sensor.

Have you checked the batteries in your air conditioner’s remote controller? You can do so either by testing the batteries with a battery power detector, or simply replacing the batteries with new ones or from another device that they demonstrate proficient functionality with.

Lastly, as odd or embarrassing as it might seem (don’t feel silly!), it’s always possible that the batteries are incorrectly placed inside of your remote. Check the “+” and “-“sign to ensure you have the batteries properly aligned. Also, ensure you are using the right size and make of batteries—as some manufacturers recommend a specific brand-only.
